[Link] | Went for a hike with the fabulous Fabs on saturday. I think we started off in Coldwater Canyon Park, and ended up in Fryman Canyon Park.
The trail was sparsely populated. We would occasionally run into people walking the opposite direction.
At one point, a woman and a man were coming up the trail, heading in the opposite direction. The woman is leading, the man walking behind. Fab's walking ahead of me.
Now, this trail is pretty narrow, so you have to look at the people approaching, to determine when to move off the trail to let them pass, or to see if they do the same.
The woman passes by me, and passes through my mind without leaving a trace.
I glance at the man's face as he walks by me. A little overweight, kinda sweaty, wearing sunglasses. His features immediately jump out at me... prominent chin, slightly hooked nose...
He has passed me by, and my brain is saying, "That was... that's..." Fabiola turns around and looks at me, her eyes wide, and his name clicks into place in my brain.
Quentin muthafuckin Tarantino!
He's probably about 50 feet up the trail by the time we confirm his identity with each-other. A bunch of options flash through my mind- abandon dignity and respect and run up the trail screaming his name, blathering praise and begging for handshakes and photographs? No, these options are quickly discarded. Who wants to be that lame-ass fan encounter, while out hiking of all places? Fab and I continued down the trail.

shopping for rings...
Does anybody know anything about men's wedding rings made out of titanium carbide?
Not the element titanium- the titanium carbide alloy is what I'm looking for.
Here's the thing: There are lots of wedding rings available in titanium, and tungsten carbide. Titanium scores a 6 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Tungsten scores roughly an 8, and titanium carbide and tungsten carbide both score a 9. Lots of tungsten carbide ring websites claim "4 x as hard as titanium!", which might very well be true on the Vickers or Brinell hardness tests. But how does it compare to titanium carbide?
Titanium is lighter, but it can get worn down, and tends to bend under extreme force. Tungsten carbide is like twice as heavy as steel (which could be cool), doesn't wear down, but will shatter under extreme force.
Tungsten carbide jewelry sites claim the superiority of the metal, claiming it resists wear better than titanium, so will remain shiny longer. In the event of an emergency, titanium would require special equipment to remove, whereas tungsten carbide can be removed by breaking the ring with a common vice-grip.
I want to know how tungsten carbide compares to TITANIUM CARBIDE, not just titanium! And does anybody even make rings out of titanium carbide?
Yeah, silver, gold, and platinum can fuck right off. I'm a geek, that shit don't fly with me. Not if I'm going to be wearing this ring for the rest of my life. And if I'm gonna get a diamond, it's gonna be that aggregated, nanocrystaline shit, so I can punch through other diamonds... and the sun!
